Weidmann Electrical Technology announced a $155 million investment to expand its Ohio operations, including a new facility in Middletown and increased production at its existing Urbana site. The project is expected to create 105 new jobs through 2027, with the Middletown plant scheduled to begin operations in 2028. The expansion adds a sixth Electrical Technology location for Weidmann in the Americas.

What it means

The investment establishes a next-generation production line for Transformerboard at a nearly 16-acre brownfield site in Middletown that has been vacant for over a year. According to the company, the Middletown facility will create 65 new jobs. The expansion also supports approximately 40 new positions at the Urbana facility, which currently employs 215 people and generates an annual payroll of more than $19 million. Weidmann said the Urbana site will expand to support the Middletown operation and meet demand for specialized insulation paper products.

Weidmann is the largest North American producer of transformer insulation materials. The company revitalized the former Fox River Paper/Howard Paper mill in Urbana over a decade ago. The Middletown project was coordinated with the Ohio Department of Development, JobsOhio, REDI Cincinnati, Dayton Development Coalition, and local city governments. The Butler County Land Bank and JobsOhio assisted in identifying the Middletown location. Weidmann Vice President of Operations Americas Wally Mahoney said, “Ohio has played an important role in Weidmann’s success for many years, and this investment reflects our confidence in the region, its workforce, and its future.” City of Middletown Manager Ashley Combs said, “This reinvestment in a historic manufacturing facility strengthens our growing, business-focused ecosystem while solidifying our industrial legacy across the region.”
