Swiss-based plasma therapy company Octapharma announced plans on July 29, 2026, to construct its first United States-based manufacturing and production site at the Palmetto Research Park in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The $1.5 billion project will occupy a 50-acre campus and is expected to create 1,500 full-time jobs for the state.
What it means
The facility will produce plasma-derived therapies, specifically bleeding management and trauma care products designated for national security and emergency preparedness needs. Octapharma stated that domestic production aims to reduce dependency on overseas supply chains for these critical medical supplies. This marks the company’s first manufacturing footprint in the United States, expanding its current U.S. operations which include 190 plasma donation centers.
“We expect significant future growth, driven by our existing life-saving therapies and a strong pipeline of new products,” said Wolfgang Marguerre, CEO and Chairman, Octapharma. Flemming Nielsen, President of Octapharma USA, acknowledged the coordination with elected officials and staff in York County and Rock Hill during the planning and zoning process. The company noted that details regarding a groundbreaking ceremony and construction timeline will be released at a later date.
