Hikma Pharmaceuticals announced on June 1, 2026, plans to invest $267 million to expand manufacturing operations in Columbus and Bedford, Ohio, creating 350 new jobs. The company, a leading U.S. generic medication provider, made the announcement alongside Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, JobsOhio, and the City of Bedford. The investment is pending approval and finalization of economic development incentives from multiple local and county authorities.
What it means
The expansion adds specific manufacturing capabilities across two existing facilities. In Bedford, a $51 million investment will expand injectable pharmaceutical manufacturing, including advanced aseptic vial filling, lyophilization, IV bag production, warehousing, and distribution at the Northfield Road site, which has operated as a pharmaceutical facility since 1938. This project is projected to create up to 300 new jobs. In Columbus, where Hikma’s facility is the largest manufacturing employer in the city and one of its three global R&D hubs, a $216 million investment will expand oral solid dose and nasal inhalation manufacturing operations, creating 50 new jobs.
Hikma stated that the Ohio investment is part of a $1 billion strategic commitment to domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing announced in June 2025. Over the past 15 years, Hikma has invested nearly $5 billion in U.S. manufacturing, research and development, and distribution infrastructure. The company employs approximately 2,300 people in Ohio and New Jersey, with more than 1,200 employees at the Columbus facility alone. These workers produce more than 12 billion finished doses annually, including many medicines on the federal government’s list of top essential drugs. A new training facility planned for construction in the Columbus area will anchor a “hub-and-spoke” network involving universities, community colleges, and technical schools.
