Overland AI announced on June 29, 2026, that it has been awarded a $20 million production Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement by the U.S. Department of Defense. The award, issued through the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering’s Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) program in conjunction with Program Manager Ground Based Air Defense, marks the first time a ground autonomy company has primed a production contract for the military. The agreement will fund the production of autonomous ground vehicles to support the Marine Air Defense Integrated System.

What it means

The contract allows Overland AI to manufacture autonomous ground vehicles specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Ground Based Air Defense portfolio, according to Joe Klocek, Program Manager for Ground Based Air Defense. The funding comes from the APFIT program. Byron Boots, co-founder and chief executive officer of Overland AI, said the company is proud to be the first ground autonomy firm to prime a production contract.

This award follows previous work by Overland AI with Program Manager Ground Weapons Systems to integrate autonomy into the ROGUE Fires platform. In addition to the contract announcement, the company reported opening a new office in Burlingame, California, on August 12, 2026.
