Whirlpool Corporation announced on October 15, 2025, a planned $300 million investment in its laundry manufacturing facilities in Clyde and Marion, Ohio. The company said the investment is expected to create between 400 and 600 new jobs and support approximately 5,000 additional jobs outside the company. Financial assistance from JobsOhio and tax credits from the State of Ohio will support the investment, which remains subject to final approval of that assistance.
What it means
The investment adds capacity at two long-running Ohio facilities: the Clyde plant, which has operated since 1952 and is, according to the company, the largest washing machine plant in the world, and the Marion dryer factory, which marked its 70th anniversary in September 2025. Whirlpool said approximately 80% of its U.S. major appliance sales come from products made in U.S. factories, against a competitor average of 25%, and that 96% of the steel used in its U.S. plants is sourced domestically. The company employs 20,000 people in the United States across 10 manufacturing plants, with more than 14,000 of those employees working at the plants.
Whirlpool said it has invested $6 billion in U.S. capital expenditures, research and development, and new product development over the past decade, with total spending on U.S. operations, logistics, and workforce reaching $23 billion over the same period. The company describes itself as the only major U.S.-based manufacturer of kitchen and laundry appliances and says it maintains the largest U.S. manufacturing operations in the home appliance industry.
