The Department of Defense awarded $25.8 million to Honeywell’s microelectronics foundry in Plymouth, Minnesota on September 6, 2024, under the Defense Production Act Investment program. The award funds production of trusted strategic radiation-hardened microelectronics using a Defense Microelectronics Activity-accredited manufacturing process and supports 90nm technology development at the Minnesota facility.

What it means

The award sustains domestic fabrication capacity for radiation-hardened microelectronics used in strategic and space missions. “The DoD requires trusted and reliable radiation-hardened microelectronic and subcomponents to support strategic and space missions,” said Dr. Laura Taylor-Kale, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy. “This project ensures components are available to meet demand for current and future U.S. systems,” she added.
