Borusan Pipe announced a $68 million investment in its Panama City, Florida facility, operated by U.S. subsidiary Borusan Berg Pipe Holding Corp., to introduce a three-step J-C-O pipe-forming process. The upgraded facility will produce pipes ranging from 16 to 60 inches in diameter with wall thicknesses of up to 2 inches, targeting oil and gas transportation, offshore projects in the Gulf of Mexico, and wind power and renewable energy infrastructure. Operations at the upgraded Panama City plant are set to commence in 2027.
What it means
Borusan Pipe said the Panama City facility, once upgraded, will be the only U.S.-based manufacturer using the J-C-O forming technology, which shapes flat steel plates sequentially into “J,” “C,” and “O” forms. CEO Zafer Atabey said the enhancements to the Panama City facility will expand the company’s portfolio and strengthen its position in traditional and renewable energy infrastructure projects. Ugur Onbasi, President of Borusan Berg Pipe, said the investment enhances production capabilities to meet market demands in onshore and offshore pipeline sectors and positions the company to support renewable energy projects.
Borusan Pipe entered the U.S. market with an initial $150 million investment in a Baytown, Texas facility, followed by a subsequent $50 million investment at that same plant. The company acquired Berg Pipe in 2023, adding facilities in Florida and Alabama and bringing total U.S. production capacity to approximately one million tons annually.
