Builders Supply Co. held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 6, 2024, for a new 23,000-square-foot concrete block manufacturing plant at 500 22nd Street Southeast in Fort Payne, Alabama. The family-owned company, founded in 1959 and headquartered in Fort Payne, is investing $10.6 million in the facility, which will create 10 full-time jobs. Construction is expected to be complete in May 2025.
What it means
The new plant will add concrete block manufacturing capacity at the Jacoway Industrial Site in Fort Payne, while Builders Supply Co. retains its existing facility at 611 Godfrey Avenue Southeast. The Alabama Department of Commerce awarded a $1.1 million grant through its Growing Alabama program, which the City of Fort Payne will use to make site improvements at the Jacoway Industrial Site. The city also donated the property to the company and provided sales and use tax abatements along with 10-year property tax abatements. AIDT, the state’s workforce development agency, is supporting the project with recruiting and training services.
Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said the Growing Alabama program “is a powerful tool to accelerate the development of shovel-ready sites, which are critically needed today as we compete for high-impact economic development projects that bring significant job creation.”
