Eaton announced on February 11, 2025, that it will invest $340 million to acquire and retrofit an 861,000-square-foot site at 3805 Furman L. Fendley Highway in Jonesville, Union County, South Carolina, to produce three-phase transformers. The project will create 700 new jobs, with production and hiring expected to begin in 2027.
What it means
The new Jonesville site will be Eaton’s third U.S. manufacturing facility dedicated to three-phase transformers, which the company describes as critical to the nation’s power grid and across industries. It will also mark Eaton’s 11th facility in South Carolina. Mike Yelton, Eaton Electrical Sector Americas Region President, stated that electrical power demand is increasing dramatically and that the company is expanding production to support affordable, reliable, and clean energy systems for utilities, data centers, and buildings.
The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project and awarded a $10 million Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to Union County to cover building improvement costs. Harry M. Lightsey III, Secretary of Commerce, said the announcement underscores the state’s commitment to grid resiliency and modernization. Eaton plans to work with readySC and regional schools to support hiring and industry training for the new positions.
