Xanadu Quantum Technologies Limited announced a multi-year partnership with GlobalFoundries (GF) to manufacture photonic components on its 300mm production line in Malta, New York. The agreement targets high-volume production of utility-scale quantum computing hardware, moving beyond laboratory prototyping to industrial-grade manufacturing.
What it means
The collaboration focuses on two primary technologies: Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors (SNSPDs) and an ultra-low-loss silicon nitride (SiN) platform. Xanadu stated that SNSPDs function as photon number resolving detectors, which read calculation outputs in photonic quantum systems. The company indicated that adopting these detectors will increase system speed and reduce chip overheads.
The SiN platform serves as optical circuit boards designed to guide photons with negligible signal loss. GlobalFoundries said the partnership combines Xanadu’s photonic computing technology with its 300mm manufacturing expertise to industrialize critical components for fault-tolerant systems. The output is intended to serve as the manufacturing foundation for Xanadu’s upcoming fault-tolerant demonstrators and support its objective of providing hardware architecture for future quantum data centers. The companies are also exploring future work packages for high-performance quantum modules.
