Marotta Controls announced on Tuesday that General Dynamics Electric Boat selected the company to design, manufacture, and test air reducing manifolds and flow control valves. The Montville-based firm will perform work supporting the Virginia-class submarine program under a contract lasting approximately three years. Marotta Controls operates additional facilities in Parsippany.
What it means
The award supports production efforts for the Virginia-class fleet, which General Dynamics Electric Boat is building under a $42.1 billion U.S. Navy contract awarded in July for nine additional submarines. Marotta Controls has provided components for every U.S. submarine class since the USS Nautilus, including the Columbia class and current Virginia-class vessels. Bryan Begane stated that the selection reflects confidence in the company’s ability to solve demanding engineering challenges at the heart of submarine work.
