Governor Glenn Youngkin announced on September 9, 2025, that Nathan Trotter, a Coatesville, Pennsylvania-based metals company, will invest approximately $65 million to build Tin Ridge, a tin production and processing facility at Patriot Centre Industrial Park north of Martinsville in Henry County, Virginia. The facility, described as the first of its kind for tin in the United States, will occupy 115,000 square feet on a 44-acre site and is projected to employ 118 workers at full capacity. The Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund provided a $1.5 million grant approved by Youngkin to support the project, and the Virginia Jobs Investment Program will support job creation.

What it means

The Tin Ridge facility would establish domestic metal production and processing capacity for tin, which the U.S. government has designated a critical mineral. Tyler Morris, VP and Partner at Nathan Trotter, said in the announcement that the facility “will play an important and historic role in strengthening our nation’s fragile tin supply chain, as global competition and demand for critical minerals reaches extraordinary levels.” The Virginia Jobs Investment Program, administered by VEDP, will provide additional support tied to job creation at the site.
