Philips announced on September 8, 2026, that it will invest $1.6 million to expand its ultrasound manufacturing operations in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, as reported by dced.pa.gov. The Dutch healthcare technology company plans to add a new production line at its facility located at 1 Echo Drive in Reedsville. Governor Josh Shapiro and Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger confirmed the project will create 101 new jobs over three years while retaining 518 existing full-time positions.

What it means

The expansion increases capacity for manufacturing ultrasound transducers, a core component of medical imaging equipment. This marks Philips’ fifth expansion at the Reedsville site in ten years, following previous upgrades in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2025. The company originally purchased the facility in 1998. According to the state announcement, the project aligns with Pennsylvania’s 10-Year Economic Development Strategy.

The Commonwealth is contributing $330,000 through a Pennsylvania First grant administered by DCED. This investment builds on a broader $150 million U.S. investment plan Philips announced last year. Philips employs more than 16,000 people across the United States. Secretary Siger recently visited Philips leadership at their headquarters in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and signed a Letter of Understanding with the Netherlands Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation in April during a trip to Philadelphia.

The announcement highlights growing trade ties between Pennsylvania and international partners. In 2025, total trade between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Pennsylvania reached $3.7 billion, a 17 percent increase from 2024. Pharmaceutical products accounted for $1.6 billion of that volume. International trade represents 5.5 percent of Pennsylvania’s GDP and supports 1.5 million jobs in the state, with products reaching 213 worldwide markets.
