SHL Medical inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in North Charleston, South Carolina. The company said the 360,000-square-foot site represents a $220 million investment and has already created more than 300 local jobs. The plant produces autoinjectors for endocrine, metabolic, dermatology and musculoskeletal therapies, including GLP-1 treatments.
What it means
The North Charleston facility integrates recent acquisitions under SHL Advantec and adds to the company’s existing final assembly, labeling and packaging operations in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Ulrich Faessler, CEO and Chairman of SHL Medical, said the U.S.-based production reinforces the company’s position as a leader in end-to-end drug delivery solutions. He noted that with an established site in Taiwan and an upcoming facility in Switzerland, SHL Medical will be the only autoinjector manufacturer operating across three continents.
Kimberlee Steele, Managing Director for North America at SHL Medical, said the opening marks the start of U.S. production for the company’s most trusted autoinjector brand. She stated the facility contributes to local economic growth and supports the company’s sustainability goals. The grand opening was attended by approximately 180 guests, including South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Swiss Embassy Consul General Urs Broennimann. SHL Medical said it is on track to deliver 1.5 billion devices to customers in 2025.
