Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative, Inc. announced a $113.9 million investment to expand operations in Rockingham County, Virginia, on April 14, 2026. The project centers on the construction of a new feed mill with nearly two million cubic feet of capacity, which the company describes as the largest grain storage facility on the East Coast. Governor Abigail Spanberger approved $2.25 million in state grants to support the expansion, which includes infrastructure upgrades at existing facilities and the creation of 146 new jobs.

What it means

The investment adds processing and storage capacity to the Shenandoah Valley poultry supply chain. According to the company, the expansion will enable VPGC to process an additional 4.5 million turkeys over the next three years. The new feed mill is designed to support this increased throughput by storing grain for feed production. The project also includes adding a rail spur at the Linville facility and completing upgrades to the water treatment system at the Hinton facility.

The expansion increases demand for local agricultural inputs. VPGC stated it will purchase an additional 2.4 million bushels of corn and wheat from Virginia farms over the three-year period following the announcement. The state funding package includes a $1 million performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Performance Grant, a $500,000 facility grant from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund, and a $750,000 grant from the Virginia Rail Industrial Access Program. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services worked with the Shenandoah Valley Partnership and Rockingham County to secure the project.
