Virginia Transformer announced plans on May 19, 2026, to construct a new power transformer manufacturing facility at the Shoals Research Airpark in Colbert County, Alabama. The company said construction will begin immediately on the 90-acre site, with the plant scheduled to become operational in January 2028. The new facility will add 1,100 jobs upon reaching full production capacity.

According to the company, the facility will serve utilities, data centers, renewable energy, industrial, mining, oil and gas, commercial, institutional, and specialty markets in the United States and Canada.
Virginia Transformer is also expanding its Georgia Transformer manufacturing facility in Rincon, Georgia.
