Virginia Transformer announced it will begin expanding its Georgia Transformer plant in Rincon, Georgia, in January 2026, with the project expected to reach completion in approximately one year. The company, which describes itself as the largest U.S.-owned producer of power transformers in North America, said the expansion will increase production capability at the 250,000-square-foot Rincon facility by approximately 70 percent and add 400 jobs. The Rincon plant produces large power transformers ranging from 30 MVA to 500 MVA at voltage ratings up to 525 kV, serving utilities, data centers, renewable energy, industrial, mining, oil and gas, commercial, and export markets.

What it means

The expansion will add vertical winding machines, core building machinery, on-site material handling and supply chain systems, new Vapor Phase Drying equipment, a transformer prep area, and increased employee parking to the Rincon facility. Virginia Transformer said the 400 additional positions will span operations, maintenance, assembly, and other areas, with applications being accepted through Rincon Jobs on Indeed. The company described the project as the latest in a series of expansion investments at the Georgia Transformer plant since it became part of Virginia Transformer in 2014.

“Virginia Transformer is the largest U.S.-owned producer of power transformers in North America, and we’ve been able to grow the past 50-plus years through an unwavering focus on delivering for our customers,” CEO Prabhat Jain said in the release. Jain also said the investment “will further underscore” the company’s position as an engineering company producing premium quality transformers with short lead times.
