Woodward, Inc. will build a 300,000-square-foot precision manufacturing facility at Smith Farms Industrial Park in Greer, S.C., the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced September 16, 2025. Woodward plans to invest approximately $200 million in the Spartanburg County project, which will produce servo-hydraulic actuation systems for aircraft flight control. Woodward said it was selected to supply Airbus with spoiler actuation systems for the A350, and the new facility will support that program. The company expects operations to begin in 2027.
What it means
The Spartanburg County facility will add approximately 275 jobs and bring a new aerospace manufacturing presence to the Smith Farms Industrial Park. Woodward Chairman and CEO Chip Blankenship described the planned site as a “showcase manufacturing facility” that will be vertically integrated and highly automated, drawing on methods developed through the company’s LEAP and GTF aircraft engine programs. Blankenship also said the facility positions Woodward to extend its hydraulic flight control expertise to additional applications and other commercial aircraft manufacturers beyond the A350 program.
The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project and awarded Spartanburg County a $1.75 million Closing Fund grant to help cover site preparation and building construction costs.
