HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division completed builder’s sea trials for Harrisburg (LPD 30), the first Flight II vessel in the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock program. The ship returned to the yard after meeting its principal test goals and will move on to acceptance trials before planned delivery to the U.S. Navy later in 2026.
What it means
Ingalls tested the ship’s propulsion, steering, ship-control equipment, communications, mission systems and combat-systems integration during the trials. Stephen Janowski, Ingalls Shipbuilding’s amphibious ship program manager, said the trials marked a step toward delivering the vessel to the fleet.
Flight II ships are intended to replace LSD 41/49 Whidbey Island-class ships as those vessels leave service. Ingalls has three Flight II LPDs under construction and is conducting early procurement and planning for Travis Manion (LPD 33), LPD 34 and LPD 35.
