Canadian Pacific Kansas City announced a multi-year investment of US$800 million in American manufacturing capacity to renew its locomotive fleet through purchases from Wabtec and Progress Rail. The railway, which operates approximately 20,000 route miles across Canada, the United States and México, confirmed it completed the purchase of 100 Tier 4 locomotives built in Texas by Wabtec in 2025. CPKC expects to receive 70 additional Texas-built units from Wabtec this year, including the first two Evolution Series ET44AC models in January, and will take delivery of 30 new EMD SD70ACe-T4 locomotives built by Progress Rail in Indiana in the second half of 2026.

Mark Redd, CPKC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said the purchases continue the company’s commitment to renew its fleet through more than US$800 million in investment in American manufacturing capacity. He stated the railway is investing in its road locomotive fleet for growth and to maintain service for customers and the North American economy, powered by a fleet with improved reliability and fuel efficiency. The investments are part of CPKC’s previously announced multi-year capital plan.
