Independent power producer ContourGlobal held a groundbreaking ceremony for Project Sterling, a hybrid solar-plus-storage facility in Mohave County, Arizona. The site is located five miles from Route 66 and will feature 450 megawatts of alternating current solar photovoltaic capacity paired with a 1.4 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system comprising 300 containers.
What it means
The project is privately funded through an equity bridge loan provided by an international banking syndicate. Once operational, the facility is predicted to generate 1.1 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually. The combination of solar generation and battery storage allows for energy dispatch during periods of low sunlight or high demand.
