Samsung SDI has signed a 1 GWh agreement to provide Alpha Omega Power with containerized NCA battery energy-storage equipment. Cells and modules for the order will be made at Samsung SDI’s StarPlus Energy plant in Kokomo, Indiana, with delivery due before the end of 2026. Alpha Omega Power’s projects are scheduled to begin construction in 2027 in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council and Electric Reliability Council of Texas markets.
What it means
The agreement brings Samsung SDI’s contracted energy-storage supply for Alpha Omega Power to 1.5 GWh, including an earlier contract signed in 2025. Samsung SDI will provide its Samsung Battery Box 1.7 system, which uses high-nickel NCA battery chemistry and Enhanced Direct Injection technology.
Samsung SDI said the SBB 1.7 provides 17% more energy density than the SBB 1.5 while retaining a 20-foot footprint. Paul Choi, CEO of Alpha Omega Power, said U.S.-made Samsung SDI energy-storage systems will support the company’s continued growth.
